Admissions Policy

We are a one form entry school; our maximum number being 30.  Nursery children can start school the term or September following their 3rd birthday.  Reception children start school the September following their 4th birthday.

As a Primary and Nursery school maintained by Oldham MBC, places are available to all children irrespective of area of residence and are in line with the following policy:-

  1. Exceptional medical or social reasons.
  2. Where brothers and sisters are in attendance.
  3. Geographical proximity to the school

Oldham’s policy is to admit reception age children at the beginning of the school year.

At Blackshaw Lane Primary & Nursery School, we think it is important that the beginning of the school is a happy and relaxed experience.  This enables pupils and staff to get to know each other and ensures that children settle much more quickly.

Children moving into the area will only be admitted to the appropriate class year if that class does not exceed 30 in number.  Transferring from other schools is by arrangements between OMBC In-Year Transfers and the schools and family concerned.  This will be organised to ensure a smooth transition for the child and effective organisational considerations for the schools concerned.

Parents wishing to transfer their child to another school should contact In-Year Transfers at OMBC and complete the relevant paperwork. Please contact In-Year Transfers on 0161 770 4195 for further information or click on the link below.
