Belong, Learn, Shine Curriculum
At Blackshaw Lane we use a thematic approach to deliver the 2014 National Curriculum providing opportunities to link subjects wherever possible. When links are effective, pupils will apply the knowledge and skills learnt in one subject, to others. Learning will also have greater relevance and coherence. Expectations and standards in the foundation subjects reflect those in English and Mathematics learning. Links between subjects enable children to have a deeper understanding of the subjects which have been brought together. Where possible, visits, visitors and their planning are used to enhance children’s experiences and enable them to understand the “real-life” application of their learning. Teachers use their professional judgement about which aspects of the programmes of study should be taught in depth, so as not to compromise the breadth and balance of the curriculum.
