Welcome to Year 1!

This half term, Year 1 have been extremely busy settling into a new key stage and learning new ways of learning.

In Maths, we have concentrated on number work. We have been counting to 20 and back and finding ways to make 10.  We have perfected our use of the number line to add and take away.

In English, our work has featured fictional stories with familiar settings. We have been applying our phonics to writing sentences and have tried to punctuate our work with full stops and capital letters.

In ICT, we have been finding out about the different uses of the i-pads and linked our work to other topics. We have used a phonics app to support our phonics, found spider facts and drawn spiders to link with our book Aaaaagh spider, which we read in English. We made a video of us acting out a story about the farm and took portraits of ourselves, which linked to our art topic.

In Geography, we have been finding our about our school and the local area. We have talked about where we live and the address of our home and school.

Our Science, lessons have been about ourselves and animals. This topic has linked well to our English stories which have also been about animals at the zoo, the farm and in a pet shop.
