Welcome to Year 1!
Hello and a big welcome to Year 1,
In year 1 we mix learning through play (continuous provision) and formal learning to ensure a smooth transition from EYFS into Key Stage 1. The children love exploring all the different challenges in the areas of the classroom.
Children are each given a reading book that they have been reading and learning during Read Write Inc phonics. We ask parents to read and discuss this book with their children. This book will be then changed once the next book has been learnt during the sessions, usually every 3-5 days. Alongside this the children will be given a school reading book. This book is changed once a week. Please could parents help read this book as much as possible to help word recognition and fluency required in Year 1. As part of the Year 1 curriculum we ask that parents not only read the book but also discuss the story and questions the children as they read.
PE days in Year 1 is Monday and Wednesday morning. Children need to have a full PE kit in school on these days to avoid missing out. In PE we work with a Latics coach and cover a wide range of subjects.
Every fortnight the children will get homework in their learning logs. Please work with your child to complete the work set, try to make it fun and work together to complete it!
Please look at the curriculum page to see what we will be covering throughout the year.
